School Aged

Getting the basics right is the first step in developing good stroke technique.

Stroke Development

We teach small progressions to build competence in the four recognised strokes; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well diving, safe water entries and survival strokes.

A component of all strokes are worked on within all levels, rather on focusing on just one. We want to not only teach all of the strokes but to help the children develop a love of swimming by making sure they find something they enjoy. We do not hold a child back in one level just because of one skill – they can continue on with the other strokes while working on what is challenging.

Water Safety

Water safety is a major focus at Buoyant Swimming & Aquatics. Children will be taught survival strokes, the use of survival aids, how to recognise dangers and the appropriate way to approach rescues, relative to their age and ability. These important skills are covered throughout the year to develop their skills and then put to the test in one SwimSAFER week each term where we replicate different scenarios and they try swimming in clothes.

Our higher levels work on maintaining technique over distance. These higher levels can then set them up for many other things such as: competitive swimming (a great fitness option), becoming a pool lifeguard or future swimming teacher.
